Monroe County motorcycle crashes leave one dead, one injured
One metro-east resident was killed in a Saturday motorcycle accident while another was seriously injured in a separate crash.
According to police reports, Mark W. Stegall, 57, of Waterloo, was riding on Illinois 156 near Foster Pond when he lost control in a curve and went off the roadway about 8 p.m.
Stegall was transported to a St. Louis area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About an hour later, the Red Bud Fire Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a motorcycle crash on Illinois 3 near J Road.
Police said Gregory Cordevant, of East Carondalet, was passing another vehicle when he lost control on uneven pavement and crashed. causing multiple injuries, including a broken leg. He was transported to Red Bud Regional Hospital and later flown by helicopter to a St. Louis hospital.
Further details about Cordevant’s condition were unavailable Tuesday morning.
