Prosecutors have charged a Freeburg man with driving under the influence in connection with a single-vehicle crash that led to a power outage for hundreds of people.

Jeffrey S. Pasqualone, 32, of Freeburg, was driving his red pickup truck at an extremely high rate of speed when it went off the road, hit a ditch, went airborne and hit a utility pole in February, police have said.

He ran from the scene, went to a hospital in Illinois and eventually was transferred to a hospital in St. Louis, police have said.

The investigation lasted a couple of months as warrants needed to be obtained to gather hospital records from Missouri.

The crash knocked out power to hundreds of people in Freeburg and parts of Millstadt and Smithton, police said.

Pasqualone is free after posting bond, Freeburg police said.
