Belleville cops take third juvenile into custody on sexual assault case

A third person has been taken into custody in connection with the Parkridge Drive sexual assault case, Belleville police said.

The suspect is a 16-year-old boy who is in the department’s custody, police said on its Facebook page.

Police said additional information is expected to be released in coming days.

According to police, a woman was ambushed in her garage late on May 5 by a trio of men, one of them armed with a handgun.

Two of the suspects stole the woman’s car, a 2015 Mini Cooper, while the other stayed behind and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

Two other juveniles have been taken into custody for the attack.

Identities of the juveniles in custody have not been released by the police.

St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly charged one of the juveniles earlier this week with aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

Kelly said charges on the second or third juvenile have yet to be filed.
