The Illinois Secretary of State’s office on June 1 is set to reinstate the emissions testing requirement in order for motorists to renew their vehicle registration stickers.
On April 6, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency resumed sending out notices, after they were temporarily suspended. Beginning June 1 motorists who need emissions tests will be required to complete emissions testing before renewing their license plates.
Standard procedures that require completion of the IEPA test prior to registration renewal, the secretary of state’s office said.
Vehicle emission testing applies to all vehicles registered in certain areas in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties.
