Don’t Miss This: Victims of O’Fallon fatal crash identified

▪ Families are mourning a pair of metro-east residents who died in a Sunday crash in O’Fallon.

Police said Harold Miller, 81 of Swansea, and Shawn Heilman, 40 of Troy, were killed in the accident on Interstate 64 at the Green Mount Road interchange.

▪ A 73-year-old veteran was ordered to be arrested by Cahokia Mayor Curtis McCall Jr. after he cut a lock to allow the lights to be turned on for a Memorial Day event.

Dave Shreve, who has organized a Memorial Day weekend horseshoe tournament at a village park for 20 years, arrived Saturday to find that no one brought a key to open the padlock that secures the panel over the light switch at the park.

Shreve, a Navy veteran, said he cut the lock so the tournament could go on and planned to buy a replacement. But he was jailed and has a court date set for July 7.

▪ A 26-year-old East St. Louis man has been found guilty of murdering a man from Shiloh.

Willie J. Brown was charged in February 2015 in connection with the shooting death of Tyree Smith of Shiloh.

The shooting happened at the Samuel Gompers Homes in the 400 block of North Sixth Street.

Brown is to be sentenced June 30.
