Section 8 voucher applications will reopen next weekend in Madison County.
The Madison County Housing Authority will accept Section 8 applications 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 17 at Bernard Long Elementary School, 1003 Farrish St., Madison; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Alton High School, 4200 Humbert, Alton.
Applications also will be accepted 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20-July 20 at the housing authority office, located at 1609 Olive St., Collinsville.
Section 8 housing vouchers are offered by the federal government and administered by the county to assist very low-income families, the elderly and the disabled to afford private-market housing. Housing assistance is provided for families to find their own housing, including single-family homes.
Applications are necessary for those interested in being placed on the Section 8 waiting list and other available properties served by the housing authority. At the moment, there are no spaces available, according to housing officials, so this is solely for the waiting list.
No applications are accepted at other housing authority offices. Completed applications may be filed by mail, fax or in person; mailed applications must be postmarked by July 20. Applications are placed on the waiting list according to a point preference system and the date and time the application is received.
