A 47-year-old Belleville man has been charged with robbing the downtown Regions Bank on Friday, police said.
William L. Grier was charged with one count of aggravated robbery, a class 1 felony, and one count of financial institution robbery, a class 1 felony. Grier’s bail was set at $150,000, police said.
During the robbery a man presented a note to the teller demanding money, implying he had a gun, police have said. The teller complied with the demand. and the suspect fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
Grier was scheduled to be transported to the St. Clair County County Courthouse for arraignment, and then to the St. Clair County Jail on Thursday, the Belleville Police Department said.
Grier was taken into custody on Tuesday.
