Allegiant Air on Thursday launched its three-day-a-week service to Destin, Fla., from MidAmerica Airport.

The flight is the only non-stop service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach from the St. Louis region. It is the fifth destination to Florida, and sixth overall Allegiant offers out of MidAmerica.

Last week, the low-cost airline also launched twice-a-week flights to Jacksonville, Fla.

Allegiant also flies to Orlando/Sanford, Tampa and Fort Myers, as well as Las Vegas.

To celebrate the Destin route, the airline held a drawing last week at St. Clair Square for two free round-trip tickets. Connie Rhein, of Belleville, was randomly selected as the grand prize winner.

Rhein was slated to take her husband, Edward, along for the trip, according to the airport.

The airline also held a drawing for 10 vouchers worth $200 apiece for other destinations.

“We’re thrilled to have Allegiant offering convenient, affordable, direct service to these two exciting new Florida destinations, which are so popular among area residents,” said Mark Kern, St. Clair County Board chairman.
