Don’t Miss This: Amazon to deliver 1,000 jobs to metro-east

Don’t miss these top stories Friday on BND.com:

▪ As many as 1,000 full-time jobs will soon be delivered to the metro-east.

Online retailer Amazon has officially announced plans to open a pair of fulfillment centers in Edwardsville.

The warehouses, which will handle items like big screen televisions, sports equipment and small electronics will cover a total of about 1.4 million square feet.

▪ A Fairview Heights resident was committed to a hospital mental ward Thursday after he opened fire in a neighborhood along Potomac Drive.

Police said no one was hurt when the shots rang out at about 6:30 a.m.

▪ If you’re looking for inspiration, head to Smithton Village Park and take a ride on its new swing.

The red swing is dedicated to the memory of Charlotte Kaffer who died after a battle with cancer.

According to her husband, Ken, Kaffer dedicated her life to children and music, serving as music director at St. John the Baptist Church for 35 years.

Kaffer donated her body to science, so her family decided to dedicate the swing in her honor since she wouldn’t have a traditional grave where she could be memorialized.
