Union UMC pastor retires after 20 years at Belleville pulpit

Belleville’s Union United Methodist Church will have a new pastor on July 1. The Rev. Edward R. Weston, Union’s senior pastor is retiring after more than 20 years at Union and 43 total years of service in local churches.

Weston’s last sermon at Union, 721 E. Main St., will be at 9 a.m. June 12, with a farewell reception following in the McKinley Fellowship Hall. The chapel service and sanctuary service is canceled for June 12.

The new senior pastor, the Rev. Harvey Gaither III, will start July 1. A guest minister and another staff minister will serve the church in the interim.

Weston will be director of development for the Preacher’s Aid Society for the United Methodist Church. During his time at Union, the church had major structural additions and renovations, and founded Journey in Freeburg.
