Don’t Miss This: I-270 flows again after Monday bomb scare

Don’t miss these top stories Tuesday on BND.com:

▪ Traffic is flowing normally Tuesday on Interstate 270 after a Monday afternoon bomb scare shut the road down for hours.

One suspicious package was found on the helicopter pad at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, Mo. Another was found on a nearby sidewalk at the hospital near the crossroads of Interstate 270 and Interstate 64.

▪ Overnight storms caused massive power outages late Monday into Tuesday.

The storms affected areas including Belleville Fairview Heights, Granite City and Pontoon Beach.

A small tornado was reported near Red Bud while lightning struck a tree in Fairview Heights, splitting it down the middle.

▪ Fans of the Mother Road are mourning the loss of a historic motel among what was once Route 66.

The Apple Valley Motel, in Mitchell, burned Sunday.

The inn was built in 1949 and was one of two of its kind in the metro-east.
