▪ A Waterloo woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison after a crash related to driving under the influence.
Katherine A. Brinkley, 27, injured two teens in a crash July 15 on Veterans Parkway in Columbia. One teen in the vehicle she hit had to be extricated and airlifted to a St. Louis hospital. Another was transported to a hospital by ambulance.
She pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated DUI in connection with the crash.
▪ As Illinois nears the start of a second fiscal year without a budget, the Department of Transportation plans to shut down road construction projects.
Barring a miraculous solution to the state’s budget impasse -- or at least a temporary band-aid solution -- work would come to an end on area roads as of June 30.
