Madison County awards grants for environmental projects

Thirteen Madison County townships and municipalities will receive $163,835 in grants toward environmental projects and sustainable initiatives.

The Madison County government has awarded these grants to multiple areas, including the City of Troy, New Douglas Township, Village of East Alton, and the Village of Marine, with the hopes that they will be invested in the environment throughout the county.

Since the grants’ establishment in 2001, Madison County has funded more than 100 projects. The projects aren’t limited to the environment and have expanded to include community undertakings, such as multi-use paths and a bicycle-pedestrian master plan.

Madison County funds the grants through local landfill fees.
