Metro-east storm knocks out power for more than 1,000
Hundreds of power outages were reported in the metro-east after a thunderstorm came through Tuesday afternoon.
According to Ameren Illinois, most of the outages were in Monroe and St. Clair counties. As of 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Monroe County had 765 outages while St. Clair County had 378 outages. In addition, 180 outages were reported in Randolph County.
The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reported several wires and trees down, mostly in Fairview Heights and Caseyville areas.
Statewide, more than 1,400 Ameren customers were without power Tuesday afternoon due to the storms.
More severe weather may be on the way, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast predicted a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday night between midnight and 3 a.m.
