Belleville restaurant closes after just three months
A handwritten note taped to the door reads “closed” and that’s it.
It’s at The Red Onion, a restaurant located at 923 W. Main St. in Belleville that opened in April.
The building previously housed Flamingo’s Restaurant in 2014 and 2015 and the iconic Maxwell’s Restaurant from 1976 to 2012.
In a News-Democrat feature story from June, restaurant owners Dean and Julie Darnall touted the restaurant’s casual atmosphere and menu items like Red Onion Steak Soup and brick-baked pizzas.
But the owners weren’t available for comment Wednesday. The phone line at the restaurant was disconnected.
Also taped to the door of the building was a permit granting temporary utility access to the building. The person whose name and number appeared on that permit did not answer a phone call.
