Out-of-control car crash injures four near Paderborn church

An out-of-control car crash sent several people to area hospitals Sunday morning near Belleville.

The crash occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday on Floraville Road in Paderborn, a census-designated area south of Belleville. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, congregants were beginning to leave St. Michael Church as a car was traveling southbound on Floraville Road.

“Witnesses said it was traveling at a high rate of speed,” said Investigator Scott Toth of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses told police that the driver lost control of the vehicle and that it rolled at least twice across the road before striking a smaller car that was pulling out of the church driveway.

The driver of the car and her two small children were taken to a local hospital with injuries that Toth said were not believed to be life-threatening. The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Her name was not immediately available.

The driver of the second car was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in that car declined treatment, Toth said. No other cars were impacted by the accident, according to Toth.

Toth said he does not anticipate that there will be any additional charges. “We do not believe alcohol or any other substance was involved,” he said.
