Two charged after foot chase near MetroLink Station
Two St. Louis men were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest after leading St. Clair County deputies on a short foot chase in East St. Louis earlier this week.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects as Dujuan Sumpter and Rayshaun Chandlar. Both are 22.
Sumpter was charged with one count of unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting a police officer while Chandlar was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of resisting arrest.
Three St. Clair County deputies pursued and arrested Sumpter and Chandlar late Tuesday night after receiving a call of trespassing at a MetroLink Station in East St. Louis. Both suspects were armed, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office said the officers identified themselves to the men, who then reached for their waistband “as if they were grabbing for what deputies believed to be a gun,” Investigator Scott Toth said earlier this week.
No injuries were reported as a result.
The case was presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office, and charges were issued on Thursday.
The suspects’ bail amounts were set at $50,000. Both remained in the St. Clair County Jail as of Friday.
