Don’t Miss This: Federal agents raid East St. Louis Township

Don’t miss these stories Friday at BND.com:

▪ Federal agents raided the East St. Louis Township offices Wednesday night.

Agents blocked the parking lot and passers-by were told that the building was closed.

Agents remained at the building, located at 6755 State St., from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Federal authorities previously said they were investigating East St. Louis Township expenditures after News-Democrat reporters showed spending by Oliver Hamilton Jr. in excess of $230,000.

▪ An O’Fallon man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 54-day-old baby boy.

Joel B. Bundt, 24, was charged on Wednesday in connection with the death of his infant son, Quinten David.

The baby’s mother, Carol “Duenan” David, who is still dating Bundt, doubts he would have hurt the baby.

The charges state that Bundt “inflicted a traumatic brain injury to David, knowing such an act created the strong probability of death.”

▪ The first person to win an Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro this summer briefly lived in the metro-east.

Olympian Virginia “Ginny” Thrasher attended Fulton Junior High School for sixth and seventh grade, school secretary Julie Weiss said, as well as part of her eighth-grade year. Thrasher did not graduate from the O’Fallon school, though, according to Weiss.

The 19-year-old athlete’s gold medal is for shooting.
