Don’t Miss This: Funeral set for soldier from Granite City

▪ A funeral service with full military honors for Staff Sgt. Christopher A. Wilbur, who died in a noncombat related incident Aug. 12 in Afghanistan, is scheduled to take place in Wilbur’s hometown of Granite City this week.

A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, followed by the service at 2 p.m., according to Wilbur’s obituary.

▪ The work spaces at Berkemann’s Baker’s Dozen in New Baden are getting bigger.

That’s because owner Paul Berkemann bought a fourth mixer for the popular bakery at 115 W. Hanover St.

Berkemann bought the new mixer in response to increased demand at the bakery.

The bakery has remained open ever since work began Aug. 1.

▪ An East St. Louis man has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon in relation to a call of shots fired, Fairview Heights Police said.

Michael R. Davis, 32, was charged with one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and had his bond set at $75,000, police said on Saturday.

Fairview Heights Police Department on Wednesday received calls of shots being fired in the area of the 10000 block of South Road Lane. After police arrived they took three people into custody without incident for questioning.
