Madison County bus service adds new route in Edwardsville

Madison County Transit has added a new bus route to serve the Lakeview Commerce Center at the intersection of Illinois 111 and New Poag Road in Edwardsville, the agency said.

The center has multiple large-scale distribution facilities, including two Amazon fulfillment centers, as well as Worldwide Technologies and Spectrum Brands.

The new route, which took effect Monday, provides direct service to Lakeview Commerce Center from a transfer point at Liberty Place and Chain of Rocks Road in Pontoon Beach. The shuttle connects to three other routes, the No. 4, No. 6 and No. 20, offering timed transfers to the Tri-Cities, the Riverbend and the Edwardsville areas, Madison County Transit said.

MCT said the new route provides transit access to about 2,000 jobs.

The transit agency added it plans to work with employers to develop carpools and vanpools to accommodate workers whose shifts extend into the early hours of the morning when transit is not available.

“Providing access to employment is one of MCT’s primary objectives,” said MCT Managing Director Jerry Kane.

Route information is available at mct.org.
