Lane restrictions along the Interstate 270 bridge near Granite City are expected to continue through Thursday, weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
The westbound right lane is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, IDOT said.
The restriction is needed to repair the driving surface of the bridge deck, IDOT said.
The restrictions are expected to cause significant delays, and motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes, the agency said.
Restrictions on the bridge were originally scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, but weather issues on Tuesday forced crews to work an extra day, said Joseph Monroe, an engineer for IDOT.
