Belleville City Council approves street closures and banners for summer entertainment

Belleville City Council approved several street closures and banner displays at its meeting Monday night, giving local residents a preview of outdoor summer fun coming their way:

  • To celebrate Pride Month, rainbow flags will fly along North and South Illinois and East and West Main streets in June, as requested by Metro East Pride of Southwestern Illinois.
  • A Pride Block Party and Drag Show will close North Second Street from West Main to the parking lot entrance of Club Escapade from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 11. It’s co-sponsored by Metro East Pride of Southwestern Illinois.
  • McIlravy’s Irish Pub will host a Car, Jeep and Motorcycle Cruise from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The first block of North 30th Street will be closed until 11:59 p.m.

  • A Candlebox Concert will require the blocking off of 10 parking spaces in the city lot at North High and East A streets from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, June 16. It’s sponsored by the Lincoln Theatre.

  • A Tavern on Main Patio Party will close North Church Street from East Main north to the alley from noon to 11:30 p.m. Friday, June 24. It will also use Gas Light Patio.

  • Sounds of Harmony Chorus will advertise its 71st annual barbershop concert, “That’s Showbiz,” with a banner on North Illinois Street. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at St. Augustine Catholic School in Swansea.
  • The Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council will use Hough Park for a Labor Day Picnic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5.
  • The Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council will host a Labor Day Parade from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5. Its route will close South First, West Monroe, South Second and West Washington.

  • The 618 Wingfest will close West Main Street from the west side of Ninth to the east side of 12th from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. It’s sponsored by Silas Savory Cooking & Catering.
