Charges filed in ‘violent and unprovoked’ stabbing at Belleville Walmart
A Belleville man has been charged on multiple felony counts after allegedly stabbing two people, apparently at random, at a Walmart store Thursday.
Kyon J. Williams, 20, was charged Friday with one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
Belleville police called the crime “violent and unprovoked,” in a release. There is no relationship between Williams and the victims, they said.
According to Assitant Police Chief Mark Heffernan, officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 2608 Greenmount Commons on the east side of the city at 7:55 p.m.
Two adults, a male and a female, were found to have been stabbed. Their injuries are serious, but not life-theatening, Heffernan said. They both remained hospitalized as of Friday night.
“We are currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation and have no apparent motive,” he said. “The two victims were taken to two area hospitals to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and further evaluation.”
He also said police are not looking for any other suspects.
