Next phase underway near Belleville’s Green Mount Commons. Here’s what we know so far
Trees are being cleared in the area behind Lowe’s at Belleville’s Green Mount Commons to make way for the latest phase of development for the shopping center.
A Starbucks coffee shop will be included in the mixed-use development that, according to a site plan approved by the Belleville City Council, will also include:
A 2,279-square-foot commercial building with 27 parking spaces;
A commercial building split into 2,450- and 3,920-square-foot spaces with 63 parking spaces;
A 1,532-square-foot commercial space with 32 parking spaces;
An 8,000-square-foot retail space with 41 parking spaces;
A 56,000-square-foot retail building with 151 parking spaces.
Cliff Cross, economic development director for Belleville, said he’s not yet able to share what new businesses are coming to town. But he confirmed what Ward 7 Alderman Dennis Weygandt posted on a Facebook group page about Starbucks being included.
The area initially had been approved for the construction of townhomes as part of the Green Mount Manor residential development.
The city council voted on Oct. 7 in favor of an amended plan that allows the unbuilt townhomes to be replaced by three “nationally known chain stores” according to public record.
