6/18/25 : This story has been updated with additional information released by the Belleville Police Department on Wednesday.

A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle was injured in a collision with a vehicle Tuesday afternoon on East B Street in Belleville.

The bicyclist and the 18-year-old driver each suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, Belleville Assistant Police Chief Mark Heffernan said.

On Wednesday, the 14-year-old was in stable condition in a local hospital, Belleville Police said in a news release.

Belleville police officers received a call for help at 4:06 p.m. and they responded to the 1100 block of East B Street. The vehicle’s driver cooperated with officers at the scene, Heffernan said.

A friend of the bicyclist told the Belleville News-Democrat they were riding with a third friend on the MetroBikeLink Trail when the 14-year-old was struck by a vehicle while crossing East B Street.

“Preliminary findings indicate the juvenile entered the roadway from a bike trail and did not yield to oncoming traffic,” according to the news release.

Mike Pannier, who was near the collision when it occurred, said he heard a noise and when he turned around, he saw the bicyclist rolling off the vehicle’s hood.

First responders found the bicyclist unconscious on the street. They performed CPR on him and used an AED, or defibrillator.

The MetroBikeLink Trail runs parallel to the MetroLink tracks and the trail crosses East B Street.
