Laderman Park is getting a new playground.

Belleville City Council voted last week to hire Lake Contracting Inc. to install the equipment.

The Addieville company submitted the low bid of $33,000, according to a list of bids included in an agenda packet for the March 16 meeting. Other bids ranged from $63,142 to $80,819.

“They’re going to install the materials we already have on hand,” said Jason Poole, director of public works and parks and recreation. “We purchased those late last year.”

The equipment cost the city about $118,000, he said. It consists of swings, a seesaw, climbing net and central play structure with towers, slides and a bridge on a soft surface.

The park’s current playground was installed in the 1990s.

“It’s old, and it needs to be replaced,” Poole said. “You can’t get parts for it anymore.”

Laderman Park is off Mascoutah Avenue. It covers 22 acres, according to the city’s website.

Besides the playground, amenities include pavilions with barbecue grills, baseball and softball diamonds, a soccer field, multipurpose fields and a 1-mile walking trail with fitness stations.
