5 family friendly activities near Belleville for summer fun outings
Summer officially begins with the June 21 solstice, but metro-east schools have been out for weeks.
If you’re looking for something to do with your children, or simply searching for a fun outing, Belleville has a host of activities available this summer.
Here’s a roundup of five family friendly things to do in and near Belleville this summer.
1. Public pools
From the Collinsville Aqua Park to the Highland Community Pool, O’Fallon Aquatic Center and Mascoutah Swimming Pool, the metro-east has several swimming options for residents looking to cool off.
Cost: Fees vary for the pools and also depend on whether you’re a resident, but a 2025 price check by the News-Democrat found Highland Community Pool was generally the most affordable, with day pass rates from $3 to $5.
2. Library events
The Belleville Public Library hosts children’s storytimes, crafting events, book bingo, game days, Lego club, an adult summer reading program and more.
Cost: Library events are typically free. And if you’re looking for library resources you can enjoy from home, the new statewide digital public library program offers a plethora of materials, including educational literature for children.
3. Belleville Splash Pad
For a free alternative to public swimming pools, check out the Belleville Splash Pad. It’s located at Bicentennial Park, and it’s open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with a midday closure from 1 to 2 p.m.
Cost: Free. Be aware there’s no lifeguard, so the facility is use-at-your-own risk. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and swim diapers are required for children who aren’t potty-trained.
4. Skyview Drive-In
The Skyview Drive-In is a popular nostalgic summer pastime for many metro-east residents. The landmark recently voted the No. 5 best drive-in theater in the U.S. in the USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Awards. It took the top spot in 2024 and 2025.
Cost: An adult ticket costs $13. One child age 12 or younger can get in free per each adult ticket purchased, and additional children’s tickets are $3.
The Bloomer family, who’s owned the drive-in for generations, is seeking a new owner.
5. Eckert’s Belleville Farm
Eckert’s Farm in Belleville offers pick-your-own fruit, and peaches and blackberries are in season as of June 18. Along with its you-pick fields, Eckert’s Farm also has a packed calendar full of events, from live music, to a 5K, to karaoke, bingo and more.
Cost: Peaches cost $2.99 per pound and blackberries are $5.99 per pound, and a field pass is required. You can buy a field pass online for $3, or pay $6 at the gate.
