Business Briefing: Oil and gas companies pledging to reduce emissions

An energy conference to be held next month in Paris will include the chief executives of 10 of the world’s biggest oil and gas companies. Each have pledged to fight global warming in a deal that proposes to reduce flaring and methane emissions from oil and gas operations as well as replacing coal with cleaner-burning natural gas. U.S. stocks are down slightly in early trading Friday following noteable gains the day before. Both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures are down 0.2 percent. There is also more anticipation that the Federal Reserve will hold off on making an interest rate hike this year. Read more here.


General Electric has reported a decline in third-quarter profit but still strong performances from its core units as the company focuses on the industrial sector. The Fairfield, Conn.-based company said profit fell 29 percent to $2.51 billion, or 25 cents per share, as its revenue fell 1 percent to $31.68 billion. Find out more here.
