The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce will be led by a familiar face.
Wendy J. Pfeil, who has worked at the chamber for eight years, was named the chamber’s next executive director. She replaces John Lengerman, who is retiring May 31.
Pfeil, who serves as the chamber’s director of membership development, will officially begin her new role on June 1.
“I was both honored and humbled at the same time,” Pfeil said Tuesday about her reaction to being appointed the executive director.

“I don’t think it’s really hit me yet that I’m taking over,” she said. “I’m excited to be here in this position. I love what I do here at the chamber and working” with the chamber’s members.
“I think it’s an extension of what I’ve already been doing,” she said.
Pfeil, 41, said one of her goals will be “to continue our mission of advancing business and supporting the community and I’d like to see that continue on in the future and become even stronger than what we are now.”
Pfeil said the chamber’s 550 business members won’t see any huge changes in the operation of the chamber and she welcomes the members to share their questions and concerns.
Lengerman announced last month that he was stepping down from the post he held for eight years.
The chamber’s Executive Committee of Jeff Dosier, Mike McManus, Tracy McCollum, Bob Mueller and Kevin Richter released a statement about Pfeil’s appointment: “After a thorough search process, she emerged as the best candidate for the job. We look forward to working with her in her new role as we continue to grow and strengthen the chamber.”
One of Pfeil’s first priorities will be to find a new executive director for Belleville Main Street, which is a department within the chamber. Darrell Coons, the current director, announced last month he would retire at the end of June.
