St. Jacob United Church of Christ will host its 33rd annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, May 21 from 10 a.m to 3:00 p.m. at St. Jacob Township Park.
The festival, which will pull in a crowd of around 3,000 people, features a farmers market, crafts, musical entertainment, a raffle, great food and delicious strawberry desserts. In a typical year, 160 flats of strawberries are cleaned and served. Strawberry preparations start Thursday with purchasing and transporting. Saturday is the big cleaning and pie-baking day. Church members and friends come from all around to help wash, de-stem, and make pies.
Trailnet’s Bicycle Fun Club from St. Louis will host a low-traffic bike ride through the rural St. Jacob countryside. The ride is suitable for all ages and abilities and allows you to choose from several different distances and routes.

It is the cycling organization’s most popular ride of the year, attracting around 700 riders from Illinois and Missouri. Partly, because it is a great family outing with a kid-friendly 7-mile route. But also, all riders get a $3 credit to put toward a strawberry dessert.
Paul Jarvis and Friends from Troy and a Southern Gospel music ministry from Belleville will be performing for everyone to enjoy. A motivational drum line from Iowa called, “Sheltered Reality” also will perform. Elizabeth Lakamp will make an appearance from noon to 1 p.m., followed by Jake Gutzler and friend from 2 to 3 p.m. The Looking Glass Corvette Club and Renaissance re-enactors from Troy/Highland will be on hand to show festivalgoers a bit about their interests and what they do.
There will also be pony rides, jump houses from Tribout Carnival Supplies in Belleville, a barrel train, crafters, and face painting. There are also free backyard games for families to enjoy.
