Jakey in June winners announced

The “Brewmasters” team was named the grand champion, and “Show Us Your Spits” was the runner-up grand champion, for the 2017 Jakey in June barbecue contest hel in St. Jacob June 3-4.

Thirty-one teams from southern Illinois and the St. Louis will competed in ribs, chicken, pork shoulder, brisket, chef’s choice, dessert and margarita categories. Jakey in June had a total prize package of $6,000 for the winners. Teams also sold their wares to visitors.

Jakey in June organizers Richard and Susan Schmidt of St. Jacob said this year’s 10th annual Jakey in June will be the festival’s last. They’re ready to retire.
