Highland News Briefs: Father’s Day car show returns to Lindendale Park

Father’s Day car show set for June 18

The Southern Illinois Street Rod Association will hold its 44th annual Father’s Day Run car show Sunday, June 18 at Lindendale Park in Highland. The event is open to the public. There will be a free T-shirt and dash plaque for the first 150 cars. About 200 cars and motorcycles from 1972 or older are expected. There will also be food and entertainment. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. Entry fee is $15. There will be plenty of parking available for participants and spectators. A portion of the proceeds will go to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Muny Band concerts start Friday

Highland Municipal Band concerts fill the summer night air with plenty of lively music. The free concerts by the 50-person band are on Friday nights, starting June 16, at 8 p.m. on the Square. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the music. The last concert will be Aug. 11.

Family Reunion

Voegeles plan annual get-together

The Voegele Family Reunion will be held Sunday, July 9 at the Highland American Legion. Pot-luck lunch starts at 12:30 p.m. Call Mark Voegele Jr. with any questions at 618-339-7130.


League of Writers to discuss making money

The Highland League of Writers will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 19 in meeting room No. 2 at the Korte Recreation Center in Highland. Making money with your writings will again be discussed. Anyone interested in writing is invited to attend. Bring your ideas, plots, or thoughts, up to several pages for a friendly critique. Poetry, memoirs, magazine, anything written are welcome. You can also come just to hear the readings. There are no dues, fees or assigned topics. Senior Menu

Faith Countryside Homes invites all seniors 60 and over to join them for their fun, food and companionship community meal program. Meals are served Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, in the Countryside Community Center, 1331 26th St. Reservations for the upcoming week should be made by 1 p.m. this Friday. Call 651-3293. Thursday, June 22: Soft beef taco, pinto beans, fiesta corn salad, creamy orange cake.

Friday, June 23: Glazed ham, scalloped potatoes, country green beans with bacon and onion, frosted angel food cake.
