Local students graduate, make dean’s list

Degrees have now been officially awarded to more than 1,275 spring 2017 graduates at Eastern Illinois University. Local graduates were Holland E. Hempen of Breese, bachelor of arts; Shea D. Brendel of Greenville, bachelor of science; James C. Wilhite of Greenville, bachelor of science; Jeff A. Wilhite of Greenville, bachelor of science; and Jeffrey O. Chandler of Troy, master of science.

More than 800 undergraduate students were also named to Eastern Illinois University’s spring 2017 dean’s list, which recognizes undergraduates with a declared major whose academic performance has been excellent. Students who achieve a GPA of 3.80 to 4.00 (on a 4.00 scale) while completing a minimum of 12 graded semester hours, excluding credit/no credit grades, in a fall or spring semester will be named to the deans’ list. Local students making the dean’s list were Allison M. Henrichs of Aviston, Lindsey E. Perkes of Aviston, Ryan J. of Alderman of Greenville and Erin M. Murphy of Troy.

William Woods

Local student named to dean’s list

Claire Stark, a junior from Marine, has been named to the dean’s list for academic excellence during the 2017 spring semester at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. A total of 221 students were honored on this list. To be included on the dean’s list, a student must be full-time and have achieved a minimum 3.6 semester and cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Highland student graduates with honors

Harmony Daniele Kapp graduated cum laude from Missouri State University Honors College in May 2017 with a degree in fashion merchandising/management and a minor in marketing. She is employed as a visual merchandiser with Target in Chesterfield, Mo. Harmony is the daughter of Dan and Melody Kapp of Highland.

McKendree University

President’s, dean’s lists announced

McKendree University has announced the following students made the president’s list for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the spring 2017 semester: Jordan Barker of Highland, Elizabeth Bruchhauser of Highland, Ally Czerwonka of St. Jacob, Erin Korte-Lamparter of Highland, Jessica Lirios of Greenville, Grant Riggs of Highland, Brittni Snyder of Greenville, Janell Straeter of Highland and Anna Wells of St. Jacob.

The following local students made the dean’s list for earning a grade point average of 3.60 or higher for the spring 2017 semester: Rachel Bilau of Marine, Jennifer Blumberg of Marine, Shane Campbell of Highland, Emily Davis of Alhambra, Megan Feldmann of Aviston, Phillip Germagliotti of Highland, Philip Harper of Aviston, David Junge of St. Jacob, Kelsey Koyanagi of Highland, Mackenzie Munie of Highland, Austin Niggli of Highland, Kyle Schmitt of Highland, Rachel Stanley of Marine, Cheyenne Stock of Highland and Marissa Weiss of Pocahontas.

Highland student earns degree

Glenn Exton of Highland received a master of arts in teaching at Rockford University’s 163rd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 13. Rockford University is a four-year, co-educational institution founded in 1847 in Rockford, Ill., offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in traditional liberal arts and professional fields.
