Cosmic bingo to benefit Mayor Michaelis

Friends of Mayor Joe Michaelis will be holding a cosmic bingo fundraiser on Friday, May 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Highland. All of the funds raised will help pay for the cost of a vehicle that will help Mayor Michaelis with his transportation needs.

Doors open at 6 p.m, and bingo starts at 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and includes six cards, cosmic dauber and hat. Cost is $5 for additional six cards.

There will also be a DJ, silent auction, and more than $1,000 in cash prizes. You must be 18 or older to attend.

Girl Scouts golf tournament

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois 26th Annual Golf Classic is slated for May 11 at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison.

Cost is $175 per player, $700 for a team. There are also many golf activities planned, including a Beat the Pro challenge, 50/50 drawing, longest drive contests and mulligans.

HHS color guard quarter auction

To help purchase uniforms and equipment, the Highland High School color guard will be having a quarter auction fundraiser on Thursday, April 30 at the Highland Knights of Columbus Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. The quarter auction begins at 7 p.m.

The $5 admission ticket includes one bidding paddle. An all-in paddle ticket can be purchased for $25 or two for $40 before the event from any color guard member or at It’s Party Time!, 919 Washington St. in Highland. There will be lots of great items for quarter bids, door prizes, a 50-50 drawing, Chinese raffle and snack and beverage concessions will be available.

St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary to Sponsor Book Sale

The HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital (Highland) Auxiliary offers you the opportunity to build your inventory of books during its New Book Sale Monday, May 4, 9am – 4pm and Tuesday, May 5, 7am – 3pm. Admission is free both days.

The Book Sale will be located in the Sullivan Conference Room (#1143) in the Medical Office Building (MOB) on the new St. Joseph’s Hospital campus (12866 Troxler Avenue).

Attendees are encouraged to park in front of and enter through the MOB main entrance and then follow the hallway immediately to left to locate the Sullivan Conference Room.

Attendees can choose from a variety of product categories including: children’s story books, cookbooks, general interest books, New York Times best sellers, stationery & scrapbooking, music collections, gifts for all ages, early learning products, and children’s educational products.

Relay For Life wine tasting

The “Oldies but Goodies” Relay for Life Team (sponsored by the Highland News Leader) will host a wine tasting party at Michael’s Restaurant on Friday, May 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The wine presentation will be given by Jim Gutzler of Highland’s Tru-Buy, in cooperation with representatives of Southern Wine & Spirits. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the wine presentation/tasting to follow at 7p.m.

The fun-packed evening includes wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, trivia, and a silent auction with lots of great items.

Highland Garden Club Plant Sale

The Highland Garden Club will have its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 9 at the Korte Recreation Center parking lot. There will be nursery-grown hanging baskets, annuals, tomato plants and lots of perennials. The sale starts at 8 a.m. and goes till noon. There will be no early sales.

Stewards of Hope “Yard Sale Extravaganza”

Stewards of Hope will host its third annual “Yard Sale Extravaganza” (formerly known as the Junk in Your Trunk Sale) at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Highland on Friday, June 5. Register to sell your garage sale items by contacting Jennifer Whitten at (618) 363-5634 or jennifer.whitten@hotmail.com. For $25, sellers receive four large parking spaces and a $4 credit at the concession stand for the day. All your profits are yours to keep. In the past, the event has had a great turnout in the past and sellers have been very happy with their results. The sale runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 5. Troy UMC Spring Auction

The annual Troy United Methodist Church UMW Spring Auction is scheduled for Friday, May 8 at the church, 407 Edwardsville Road. The evening event, beginning at 5:30 p.m., will feature the third annual live auction. Proceeds will benefit Cunningham Children’s Home, Mount Vernon Children’s Home, Ministries Unlimited, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, Oasis Women’s Center, Red Bird Mission, Good Samaritan House, The Covering House and Midwest Mission Distribution Center.
