St. Gertrude Catholic Church
The estimates are in for the painting and plastering in the sacristy and work will be done before the Chicken Dinner. The outside work is being detained until Father Scott is in attendance, some time after July 1.
A Memorial Day Mass will be held Monday, May 25 at 8 a.m. at St. Gertrude Cemetery. Lawn chairs and umbrella’s may be brought. In the event of heavy rain, the service will be held at St. Gertrude’s Church. Collections at each of the Masses will go toward a maintenance fund for the parish cemeteries.
May is the Month of Mary. In recognition of Mary, the Rosary will be prayed at all of the Silver Creek parishes beginning one-half hour before Mass.

The Catholic Holy Society will have a Country Store at the Chicken Dinner on Sunday, June 7. Items needed are: baked and food items, crafts, homemade jellies or jams and canned goods of any kind. Bishop Thomas John Paprocki will offer Sacraments of Confirmation to the members of the Silver Creek Parishes, St. Jerome, St. James, St. Elizabeth and St. Gertrude on Wednesday, May 27. Confirmation Mass will be at 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth in Marine. This is open to any adults 18 or older who have not received the Sacraments of Initiation and would like to be confirmed. The summer worship schedule will start on May 31 with church starting at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.
Graduating seniors will be honored on May 31 at the 9:30 a.m. worship service. As of now, those being honored are: Matt Augustine, Megan Gruner and Anna Heinold from high school, and from college, Claire Geiger (University of Illinois) and Matthew Darmour -Paul (Iowa State). If someone has been left out, contact Pastor Tim so the graduate may be recognized.
Worship service at 10:15 a.m. on May 17, and sub sandwiches will be served after worship.
A Consistory meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m., and yoga at the same time. Pastor Tim will have a worship service at Alhambra Care Center at 10 a.m. Families are welcome to come enjoy worship with their loved ones.
It is an ordinance within the village of Grantfork that all premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or growth in excess of 10 inches. All noxious weeds are prohibited.
Property must be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage. Disposal shall be done in a clean and sanitary manner by placing the rubbish in approved containers.
It is also an ordinance of the village that no inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicles shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises unless its in an enclosed garage, and no vehicle shall at any time be in a state of major disassembly, disrepair or in the process of being stripped or dismantled.
Swimming Pool Safety
Pool owners are responsible for keeping their pool area safe. Ladders left in pool are an invitation to toddlers. Be sure and remove the ladders anytime there is not an adult in attendance at the pool area.
