Hard Road Theatre to host auditions for ‘Shrek’

Sponsored by Bradford National Bank, Hard Road Theatre is proud to announce auditions for its summer musical, Shrek.

Based on the 2001 movie and adapted from the 2008 Broadway musical of the same name, Shrek follows the ogre Shrek and a talking donkey who, in order to take Shrek’s swamp back from a group of fairy tale creatures, must rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower for the ruthless Lord Farquaad.

Auditions for adults (17 and older) will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Highland Elementary School, 1800 Lindenthal Ave. in Highland. There are roles available for 35 adults. Adults should come prepared with 32 measures of a Broadway-style song that suits their voice. An accompanist will be provided, but no recordings will be allowed. In addition, please be prepared to read scenes from the script and learn a short dance routine.

Separate auditions for children (ages 10-17) for Shrek will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the Highland Elementary School. There are five to seven available roles for children. Children auditioning should visit the Hard Road website, www.hardroad.org, for required music and songs. In addition, children might be asked to read sides from the script.

All those auditioning should also be aware of any conflicts they have from May 22 to Aug. 3. Performance dates for Shrek are July 24-26, 31 and Aug. 1-2.
