Sign up now for Schweizerfest events, parade
The Highland Jaycees are signing people up now for several contests that will go on in conjuction with this year’s, Schweizerfest which will be held June 12- 14 at the downtown Square in Highland. Parade entries are also being taken.
‘Highland Idol’
The Highland Jaycees would like to invite you to participate in the 2015 Schweizerfest “Highland Idol” singing competition to be held Saturday, June 13 on the Square. This singing competition will be karaoke-style and the winner will receive $100.
The competition will begin promptly at noon on Saturday, June 13. Sign-up times include Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 13 during the first round of competition.
Early registration is available between now and June 13. If you have any questions or would like to register early, call Mitchel England at (618) 975-3951.
Glo-Run
The Glo-Run is a family-oriented 5K run that starts around dusk, and includes glow-in-the-dark items as giveaways, and black-lights to add to the theme. The event will be held on Frank Watson Parkway on Friday, June 12 at 8:30 p.m., and begins near the intersection of U.S. Highway 40.
Anyone interested in participating can find an entry form at one of many local businesses, on the event’s Facebook page (search 2015 Schweizerfest Glo-Run) or by emailing andy.abendroth@gmail.com. Entry forms can be turned in by mail, or in person at First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust on Route 143 in Highland.
Runners are encouraged to turn in their entry forms by May 29 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.
Bags & Washers tournaments
There will be a washers tournament from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
A bags tournament will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Parade
A Schweizerfest parade entry is a great way to promote your organization while giving back to the community. The Highland Jaycees are actively seeking parade participants in and around the Highland area.
The Schweizerfest parade will be held Saturday and Sunday evenings, at 5 p.m. both nights.
