Grantfork and Alhambra events include a homecoming, fundraisers and school starting

Grantfork Homecoming, Aug. 17 and 18.

This years theme for the Grantfork Parade will be “Watching Disney Movies”. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Plenty of food and drink to be had and there is always plenty of room at the bingo games. A softball tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Meals on Wheels Fundraiser.

Meals on Wheels will hold a fundraiser at Mazzio’s Pizza, 2683 Northtown Way, Highland. A percent of all food sales from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, will benefit the Meals on Wheels Program.

St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mass will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at St. Gertrude’s Church.

Emma Lynn Wirz, daughter of Andrew and Cheryl (Rinderer) Wirz was baptized Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at St. Gertrude’s Church. Sponsors for Emma were, Jennifer Klemm and Joel Rinderer.

Grantfork UCC.

Worship service is held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The United for Others group will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. There is a worship service at the Alhambra Care Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

The UCC youth group will sponsor an ice cream booth at this year’s homecoming on Aug. 17 and 18.

Box Tops for Education.

To participate in the Box Tops for Education fundraiser cut out the small Box Top labels on everyday items and save them for the school. Each label is worth 10 cents and this can add up quickly if parents, grandparents and friends remember to save the Box Tops. Look for special displays at the store and some have extra box tops.

Alhambra Primary.

The first day of school will be on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018. Pre-K parents and student orientation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16. First day of school for Pre-K is Aug. 17.

Free Flu Shots.

The Township will be offering free flu shots for residents of Alhambra and the Township from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Township Park in the Firemen’s Hall. Mobile flu shots will be available to any senior citizens or disabled persons. Anyone with difficulty getting around may just drive up to the Firemen’s Hall and a nurse will come out to the parking lot to administer the vaccination.

To register for your free flu shot, call Freddie at 618-488-7603 or pick up a vaccination form in advance at AG Telephone Co. or National Bank. If needing mobile services, let Freddie know at time of registration.
