East Alton Wood-River 3, Highland 1
The hockey Bulldogs struggled with offense and East Alton Wood-River scored two goals in the first period and added a second-period goal en route to a 3-1 over Highland on Monday, Nov. 26 at East Alton Ice Arena.
Scott Knight, Isaac Lewis and Drake Scroggins scored goals for the Oilers. Junior captain Lucas Korte scored for Highland.

Freeburg/Waterloo 7, Highland 2
Last Thursday (11/29) Highland got off to a decent start with a pair of first period goals but the lead did not stand as Freeburg/Waterloo responded with a five-goal explosion and added a goal in the second and third periods to roll to a 7-2 victory.
Jacob Dinkelman led all scorers with a hat trick and Nathan Metz had two assists for Freeburg/Waterloo.
Lucas Korte and Jacob Knoll each scored for the Bulldogs. Winless Highland fell to 0-7-1.
Highland 47, Edwardsville 45
It was the first big test of the season for the Lady Bulldogs and at the end, they fared well. Highland slipped past the large school and Southwestern Conference power Edwardsville 47-45 last Saturday (Dec. 1) in the Scott Credit Union Coaches Vs. Cancer Shootout at Edwardsville High School.
Balanced scoring helped carry the Lady Bulldogs as Ellie Brown, Bella LaPorta, and Mae Riffel carried the load. Brown scored 26 points. LaPorta scored 13 points and Riffel added 13 points. LaPorta came up big on the boards with 8 rebounds.
Highland moved to 5-1 with the victory.
Last Saturday (Dec. 1) in Bethalto was a decent outing on the mat for the Bulldog grapplers. Highland finished in ninth place in the 40th annual Civic Memorial Tournament at Civic Memorial High School. The Bulldogs scored 102.5 points to get their top 10 finish.
Jerseyville (106.5 points) finished ahead of the Bulldogs in eighth place and East Alton-Wood River finished in 10th place (86 points).
Vandalia won the tournament with 203 points and host Civic Memorial was second with 177.5 points.
Colton Brown had the top finish for Highland, placing second.
