Bowling

HHS boys bowling wins at Mascoutah

On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Highland bowling teams visited Mascoutah and both came away with wins.

In the boys match, Austin Roach had the high game with a 222. Austin Davis rolled the high series of the match with a 610.

On the girls side, fired both the high game and high series, shooting both the high game and high series was Molly Marshall with a 212 and a 594 for the evening.

Bowling teams fare well in Taylorville Tournament

The Highland bowling teams ventured to Taylorville on Saturday, Dec. 7, and did pretty well on the lanes.

HHS took fourth place in the girls portion of the match. The Highland boys finished fourth in the tournament.

Marshall placed ninth in the girls division and on the boys side, Davis turned in a strong day with a fourth place finish.

Hockey

Freeburg-Waterloo 14, Highland 2

The hockey Bulldogs returned to the ice Dec. 3 and had a rough night.

Freeburg/Waterloo exploded for eight first period goals and rolled to an easy 14-2 victory at East Alton Ice Arena.

Nicholas Mumford paced Freeburg/Waterloo with a hat trick while Brenden Kirk and Joe Lugge each scored two goals. Lucas Korte and Travis Woodall accounted for the two Bulldogs goals. Korte and Dylan Kreke each recorded an assist.

Triad 9, Highland 7

After starting off hot against rival Triad and matching the Knights goal for goal to a 5-5 after the first two periods, the Highland Bulldogs offense fell off in the third period Tuesday, Dec. 4.

The rival Knights outscored the Bulldogs 4-2 in the third period and held off HHS for a 9-7 Mississippi Valley Conference Hockey Association victory at East Alton Ice Arena.

Korte led the Bulldogs scoring attack with five goals and an assist. Ethan McFarland had three goals and two assists in pacing Triad.

The setback moved Highland to 1-8 overall.

Boys Basketball

Chatham-Glenwood 67, Highland 23

Three days after taking Alton Marquette down to the wire, the Bulldogs came out flat at home against Chatham-Glenwood.

Chatham started out quick and never looked back in rolling to a 67-23 win over the Bulldogs at Highland High School on Friday, Dec. 6.

Highland slipped to 1-5 with the loss.

Wrestling

Bulldog wrestlers finish 10th in 41st Civic Memorial Tournament

The Highland wrestling took a trip to Bethalto on Saturday, Dec. 7, to compete in the 41st annual Civic Memorial Tournament at Civic Memorial High School.

It was a solid day on the mats for the Bulldog grapplers. Senior Tanner Schranz placed third at 126 pounds while sophomore Benny Mitchell took fifth place in the 145-pound division.

Junior Colby Davis turned in a seventh-place showing in the 152-pound division. Senior Alex Reed had a strong day as he placed second in the 195-pound class.

Highland finished 10th overall in the 21-team tournament field.
