Girls Bowling

HHS defeats Triad

The HHS girls bowling team started the week off right thanks to a victory over Mississippi Valley Conference archrival Triad on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Poplar Junction Lanes in Highland.

Molly Marshall and Carissa Merkle shared high game honors with each rolling a 247. Merkle claimed the high series with a 652.

Highland clinched a share of the MVC championship with the win, splitting the title with Mascoutah.

Girls Basketball

Jerseyville 60, Highland 56

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Jerseyville on Thursday, Feb. 6, and struggled for three quarters but surged in the fourth quarter before falling short against the Panthers 60-56 in a Mississippi Valley Conference road game.

HHS trailed 32-19 at the end of the first half, but, thanks to a 26-point fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs pulled as close as two points with 20 seconds left.

Highland (21-7, 5-3) had three players score in double-figures as Kirsten Taylor pumped in 19 points, Megan Kronk scored 13 points and Bella LaPorta added 12 points. Chloe White led Jerseyville with 19 points and Abby Manns, who scored her 1,000th career point, added 17 points.

HHS returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at home against MVC rival Waterloo.

Hockey

Edwardsville 7, Highland 6

In the first round of the MVCHA playoffs Thursday, Feb. 6, the Highland hockey team battled into overtime but came up short.

After playing through overtime, Edwardsville clipped HHS in the shootout round as HHS fell to the Tigers 7-6 at East Alton Ice Arena in East Alton. Lucas Korte led Highland with four goals.
