A traffic stop last weekend yielded a pile of firearms, and Maryville Police are hoping the public can help them find out where they came from.

Maryville Police stopped a car with two juveniles at 2:30 a.m. Friday and found several firearms, including four long guns. Neither juvenile had a Firearm Owner Identification card through the state of Illinois, and police believe the guns may have been stolen. The juveniles are refusing to cooperate, police said.

“They are not telling us where they got these guns,” said Maryville Police Chief Robert Carpenter. “They couldn’t legally have had these.”

Carpenter said they are running traces on the guns but are hoping members of the public may recognize them. The juveniles have not been charged with any crimes yet, but Carpenter said he believes they are not telling the truth.

“Once we know where the guns came from, we know where to go with the charges,” Carpenter said.

The police department has posted pictures on social media, and Carpenter said if anyone recognizes the weapons, they should contact the Maryville Police Department at 344-8899.
