Highland News Leader

Letter to the Editor: Baseball coach appreciative of all who supported team

Dear Editor,

This is a letter of gratitude for the incredible newspaper section regarding the recent state championship garnered by the Highland Bulldogs baseball team.

I am constantly reminding our players of whom they represent every time they wear our uniform: our school, our families, and our community. This town (and surrounding feeder areas) seems to love its youth.

The outpouring of appreciation at the Schweizerfest and now through this newspaper treatise is more evidence of that support. Thanks for all of it.

It has been a privilege to represent Highland on the field and this championship is dedicated to this great community.

Big thank yous go out to all who provided sponsor notices in the paper. We appreciate photos, articles, and whatever else that highlighted any of the events along the way. Thanks to the staff of the Highland News Leader for including us in their coverage and for this special notice.

The folks who yelled encouragement throughout this improbable run are also a cause for gratitude.

Also, this coach appreciates each player, assistant coach, trainer, and anyone connected with the program for the contributions each made during this season.

Hopefully, the accomplishments of this team provided folks with another reminder of why we are proud to be from Highland.

Joel Hawkins, head coach

Highland High School baseball
