Letter to the Editor: Leaders need to step up to stop abortion

Dear Editor,

In this upside down, topsy-turvy world, nothing really bothers me. But, recently, two things became national news that should make people realize what this nation stands for.

First, Pope Francis makes a call for action on — of all things —“climate change.” What about a call to the bishops and priests to lift a finger to stop the slaughter of the innocent through abortion?

At the recent meeting of the Council of Catholic Bishops over in St. Louis, Mo., you didn’t hear a word on the subject of abortion. So sad.

Wake up, Christians. We’re in the fourth quarter, and we’re losing. God’s not losing. We are.

Secondly, Illinois 15th District Congressman John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) had recent jubilation over voting for the Unborn Protection Act. Get serious. You mean an unborn baby at 19 1/2 weeks does not feel the pain of having a pair of scissors jabbed in the back of its head?

Also, Congressman Shimkus, who is going to enforce this worthless piece of legislation that you cannot kill a baby past 20 weeks? Nobody.

God will hold the pope and Congressman Shimkus accountable for their actions, just as He will you and me.

We must stop killing the unborn. It’s murder.
