St. Jacob Homecoming is July 16-18
St. Jacob Homecoming is July 16-18. There will be rides, food, and games to play. Thursday night, the 16th, is Family Night from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy live music, a parade float contest, and even bingo Friday and Saturday night. No outside beverages or coolers are permitted.
Historical Society of Marine elects new officers
New officers were recently elected for Marine Historical Society. Sandy Gentry is president. Dawn Dykes is vice president. Shirley Dietz is secretary, and Carl Conrad is treasurer.
Membership dues are due and are $5 for the year. All members and those wanting to be a part of the society should attend to keep their membership active.
The Historical Society of Marine will next meet on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in the Marine Senior Citizen Building, located at 101 W. Silver St.
Some topics to be discussed at the meeting include fundraising ideas and deciding on a tour. Information on a “Walking Tour of Marine Historical Structures” will be talked about, too.
Your thoughts and ideas are important to the well being of the society. Mark your calendar for July 13 and plan to attend. For more information, call 644-3821.
Bridge scheduled for temporary closure on Marine Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced that the bridge carrying Marine Road over Interstate 70 will be closed starting Monday, July 6, weather permitting. The closure will be necessary to perform bridge joint replacement and waterproofing. A marked detour will be in place directing traffic around the closure using U.S. Highway 40 and Illinois Route 143. The work is expected to be completed by Aug. 14.
St. Jacob Fire District to hold budget hearing
The St. Jacob Township Fire Protection District will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 13 on its Budget and Appropriation Ordinance for the the 2015-2016 fiscal year. The meeting will be held at the St. Jacob Fire Protection District firehouse, 113 East Second St. in St. Jacob.
A copy of the tentative budget is available at the the office of Christopher A. Tolbert, district secretary, at the firehouse. Written and oral comments from the public concerning the proposed annual budget are welcome. The fiscal year runs from May 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016.
St. Jacob UCC
The Youth Group continues to collect cans. Marked containers are in the rear of the church between the doors to Heritage Hall and the basement.
There is a sign-up sheet for mowing grass located on the Heritage Hall bulletin board. The church as a mower to be used.
Any volunteers willing to become Sunday school teachers should call Patti at 644-9410) or Pastor Gary at 644-5703 as soon as possible.
