Highland residents to see increase in trash removal cost after council renews contract
Residents and business owners will be paying slightly more for trash collection in the coming year, after Highland renewed its contract for solid waste removal.
The Highland City Council voted last week to renew the contract with Robert “Bob” Sanders Waste Removal when the current contract expires Sept. 30.
Finance Director Reanna Ohren recommended renewal as staff feels the services have been good for the community, but the cost will increase next year.
To cover the additional expense, Ohren recommended increasing residential rates by $2 to $28 a month. Commercial non-containerized rates will increase $3 to $42 a month.
“(Sanders Waste) provides a valuable service to our businesses and residences,” Ohren wrote.
She said Sanders will continue to offer unlimited pickup at each residence for refuse, recycling and yard waste, along with bulky items.
As before, residents must put yard waste in a craft-paper yard bag or trash can marked with a large red X, and twigs and branches will need to be cut to 4 feet or less in length and bundled with twine. Appliances will be picked up once per month on the third Friday.
For containerized businesses that use a large collection receptacle, prices will range from $69 to $954 per month depending on the size of the container and the frequency of weekly pickups.
Additional collections may be scheduled for an extra fee. Construction and automobile waste likewise has a wide range of fees, available from city hall or Sanders Waste.
