K and R Lightning win NSA state title

K and R Lightning, a 12U local softball team consisting of area girls, along with 28 other teams, qualified for and competed in the National Softball Association (NSA) Illinois South B State Tournament in East Peoria, Ill. on July 3-5.

The K and R Lightning has had a stellar season and was the top seed going into the tournament. They shut out most of their competitors, including the defending champion Moultrie County Rush, and finished undefeated after besting the Central Illinois Diamonds 8-3 in the state finals.

The K and R Lightning is led by head coach Randy Brown of Greenville and features three Highland girls, Taylor Fleming, Madison Fenton and Megan Kronk.
