Highland Historical Society needs volunteers
The Highland Historical Society, in collaboration with the City of Highland Historical Commission, will execute the city’s first ever historic resources survey. The Highland Historical Society is looking for additional volunteers that would be willing to help take photos.
A City of Highland Historical Commission Project, the purpose of the survey is to act as the principal tool for identifying historic resources, and categorizing them in a local, state, and/or national historic context.
This survey will also act as the basis in assisting the Historical Commission in creating a city historic preservation plan and while also identifying additional properties that have not yet been fully discovered, such as Sears homes. The most important resources have the potential for nomination to the National Historic Register, and National Landmark Status.
Upon completion, the survey will serve as an irreplaceable record for the present state of the Highland Community and will be submitted to other Historic Preservation associations for record, such as the State of Illinois HARGIS Program.
This survey does not affect individual property rights, and only involves taking exterior photographs from the street, unless permission is granted by the property owner for closer photographs.
Although work is likely to continue throughout the month of November, the survey will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, with meet up at the Kaeser House parking lot for survey assignment.
Individuals interested in assisting with this endeavor should contact Jacob Rose at 618-604-5099, or jwrose411@gmail.com.
