Heartland Community Chorus celebrates 10 years of making music

Heartland Community Chorus has something to celebrate — their 10th anniversary.

The group, based in Highland, first auditioned singers back in August of 2013, and immediately after, prepared their first concert — a Christmas show.

Since then the group has grown from 24 members to over 40 strong. The singers range in age from 20-somethings to 80-somethings, and they hail from Highland, St. Rose, Troy, Trenton, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Marine, Breese, Pocahontas, and Aviston.

Their mission is to promote and preserve the tradition of choral music for the cultural enrichment of the metro-east region.

Director Luanne Murphy attributes the success of the group to three things: A talented, energetic and dedicated group of singers; a well-qualified, experienced, and invested board of directors; and a very supportive and generous community of concert-goers.

“Even during the difficult days of the COVID pandemic, when we could not meet in person and when there were no live performances, our fans still supported us both financially, and by viewing our recorded music videos,” Murphy said. “I don’t know how we would have survived without them!”

Recently, annual appeal letters were mailed out to those patrons who have helped the chrous in the past. If people would like to join those who make it possible for Heartland Community Chorus to continue, please visit their website — www.heartlandcommunitychorus.org — and click on “How You Can Help.”

While on the site, go to “Concert Dates and Tickets”, where community members can purchase tickets for the 2022 Christmas concert, or get season tickets — where three concerts are included for the price of two.
