New Douglas News for the week of July 16

Rec Plex cancels programs

Due to low attendance, the following activities have been cancelled for the summer session:

▪ Art Classes for ages groups 5-8 and 9-plus for Aug 4.

▪ Open Gym: July 27 and Aug. 3

▪ Adult Aerobic Bootcamp on July 23 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Restaurant construction underway

The parking lot and driveway gravel has been poured at the

Flyers Grill site, 103 South Main. The foundation will be poured this week. Sewer and natural gas should be finished before the end of July. The building should be at the location by August and the opening date will take place around September, all factors permitting.

The new owner of the former Mossie’s restaurant has begun renovation. The side entrance received a sizable makeover with new roofing. They are also busy completely reforming the interior of the building. More news to come.

New Douglas is poultry-friendly village

Did you know that New Douglas is a poultry/fowl-friendly village? Those who wish to pursue keeping poultry/fowl in village limits must apply for a variance with the Village Board.

The board will assist you in completing the necessary steps to obtain the variance. This involves completing multiple steps, including obtaining permission from your neighbors. You can contact any board member for more information or simply attend the next board meeting in person with a list of the type and number of animals you wish to own to start the process.

The next meeting will be held at the New Douglas Community Center on July 20 at 7 p.m.

Village can provide mowing assistance

Those who are physically unable to maintain areas of their lawns can contact the Village Board for possible assistance. You can reach Barb Bassett at (618) 593-3510.
